Smoke

Woman with a cigarette

Woman with a cigarette (click the photo to enlarge)

This photograph illustrates the air we have to breath while walking through the streets of Sydney courtesy of smokers. Every few meters people are having a cigarette and in most cases we do not see the smoke even if we may smell its choking fumes. It takes a big of sunlight on the right angle to show how much smoke a person exhales in a single puff.

PS: I know cigarettes are legal but they carry a lot of health warnings about the consequences of smoking them, so where is my right not to have to inhale this hazardous substance?

Skateboarder in the air

Skateboarder in the air

Again, I have watched a couple of skateboarders trying to get some huge air and then land in the super small space of the entertainment pit at the Martin Place. There is no question they were getting their jumps quite high but landing them, as it is often the case, proved more illusive.

Three Sisters in clouds

Three Sisters in clouds MG_9395

Three Sisters in clouds MG_9395

There is no visit to Blue Mountains without a quick look over the Three Sisters in Katoomba from the Echo Point. However, you may be in for a surprise similar to what we have experienced: you may arrive there to see it but being able to see it is another story. A thick, low laying cloud cover totally obscured the famous Three Sisters. Actually, one could hardly see anything at all at Echo Point. The cloud cover subsided slightly for few seconds allowing me to take this very moody and almost mysterious photograph of Three Sisters.

Winter magic festival is an annual event held at Katoomba to celebrate winter solstice. It is one big cultural event attracting people of all sorts. Dressing up is big on the agenda and thus it is a photographer’s paradise. There are bands, dancers, drummers, lots of firemen and representatives of almost all alternative lifestyles you can think of.

Lucas Cave MG_9748

From time to time we visit Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains. There is something very fascinating and beautiful in these caves. And when one considers that it takes millions of years for the cave to develop as we see them today it deserves even more “wow” factor.

On our last visit we went to a very popular Lucas Cave. It has a few more steps then most caves in the Jenolan Caves but the little effort is well worth it. I invite you to visit my Lucas Cave gallery.

Fuel crisis - a motorcycle future?

Motorbike future

Motorbike future

During seventies when the first major fuel crisis occurred many people switched their means of transport to motorcycles and scooters. They take far less fuel and are easier to park as they simply occupy less space. And in the city where most people travel to work by themselves it would make a perfect sense as opposite of bringing in your family sized sedan or 4WD (SUV).

With fuel prices setting new records now on weekly basis could this trend occur again? Well, if you look at this photograph of a long row of parked motorcycles you will know it has already started. Only few months ago you would see perhaps a third of these bikes in this particular location. more …

Incredible India

Portrait of an Indian dancer

Portrait of an Indian dancer

This photograph of an Indian girl adorned by traditional jewelery was taken during a tourist promotion, which took place at Sydney’s Martin Place. A variety of very colourful, male and female performances, which you can see in my new Indian gallery, kept the spectators entertained during lunch. The whole show was done in a lighthearted way, thus showing even more of the nature of the Indian culture and people.

Mmmm... chocolate

Mmmm… chocolate

I knew how I will title this photograph the moment I’ve captured this beautiful model promoting Nestle Club chocolate.

I know I have a sweet tooth and only the desire to take an interesting photograph kept me away from the very inviting tray with chocolates. There were plenty of interested people in testing the dark chocolate. Yum!

Look Out

Look Out

.. “cars about”

Yes, it is the same message from my previous post about “pedestrian safety”. This time however, it not a Picasso man but a quizzically looking woman.

Picasso face

Picasso face

Picasso face

An interestingly dressed and man and a woman with an elaborate makeup were approaching people in the Pitt Street Mall. Most people did not know how to react as it was not clear from their attire who or what are they representing. Was it a costume party or just a couple of mad people?

Well, believe it or not, once you overcame the fascination with their look the message they were carrying was simple “pedestrian safety”.

So, the man with the Picasso face was simply saying “look out, cars about”. And the crowd was looking out … for him not the cars. Kudos for originality and look but total failure as specific message delivery method.
